Starlab Planetarium
Keystone AEA circulates 4 portable planetariums, which are called Starlabs to schools. Training is required to use the Starlabs. Contact Jason Martin-Hiner for training jmartin-hiner@ aea1.k12.ia.us
You will need a large area to set up the Starlab.
KM 008121 Starlab Planetarium Systems (4 Parts)
Inflatable dome (16' diameter, 10' height) that up to 35 students can enter to observe projected images. Contents: inflatable dome, fan, resource book, projector, six projection cylinders (Northern Starfield, Constellations, Greek Mythology, Native American Mythology, Plate Tectonics, and Earth), and two audio cassettes.
Requires 21'x21' room size.
Workshop training required before using.
Ten-day loan period.

KM 008150 African Mythology (Starlab Cylinder)
A projection cylinder used to project images on the Starlab (KM08121) dome. Depicts constellation figures as seen by many African cultures including Dogon, Bushmen, Masai (Maasai), Egyptians. The appearance of these constellations marked key events such as the beginning of the planting season, and signified important moral lessons. Contents: cylinder. Use with Starlab Kit.
KM 008151 Ancient Chinese Legends (Starlab Cylinder)
A projection cylinder used to project images on the Starlab (KM 08121) dome. Features over 300 color constellations such as The Royal Couple, The Supreme Commander, The Awakening Snake, The Four Pillars of Heaven, and The Prisoners of War. Contents: cylinder. Use with Starlab Kit.

A projection cylinder used to project images on the Starlab (KM 08121) dome. Features the four beasts representing the ancient seasons which influenced ancient daily life. Contents: cylinder. Use with Starlab Kit.
KM 008153 Ancient Egyptian Culture (Starlab Cylinder)
A projection cylinder used to project images on the Starlab (KM 08121) dome. The skies as seen by the ancient Egyptians around 2500 BC. Precession. Explains what the star formations meant to the Egyptians. Contents: cylinder. Use with Starlab Kit. Training required. Ten-day loan period.
KM 008154 Biological Cell (Starlab Cylinder)
A projection cylinder used to project images on the Starlab (KM 08121) dome. A one million-time magnification of a composite cell of a one-celled organism. Illustrates in color the processes of cellular digestion and reproduction. Contents: cylinder. Use with Starlab Kit. Training required. Ten-day loan period.
KM 008155 Celestial Coordinates (Starlab Cylinder)
A projection cylinder used to project images on the Starlab (KM 08121) dome. Projects 3000 stars against a background of the celestial coordinates, the ecliptic and the galactic equator. Right ascension is marked in hour intervals, declination at 10-degree intervals, with processional axis plus or minus 13,000 year increments. Useful for angular measurement, location of faint celestial objects, and spherical geometry. Contents: cylinder.

A projection cylinder used to project images on the Starlab (KM 08121) dome. Simulates what the outlines of the Earth's continents look like looking out from the inside of the Earth. Contents: cylinder. Use with Starlab Kit. Training required. Ten-day loan period.
KM 008157 Hindu Mythology (Starlab Cylinder)
A projection cylinder used to project images on the Starlab (KM 08121) dome. Features over 30 stories of constellations and stars from the Vedas, Ramayana, Mahhabbarta, and Puranana. These legends tell of a heavenly couple similar to Adam and Eve, an evil "blinking" star, hunters and warriors, explanations of the role of the sun and moon, tales of monsters. Contents: cylinder. KM 008158 LAPP (SAMI) Mythology (Starlab Cylinder)
A projection cylinder used to project images on the Starlab (KM 08121) dome. Depicts outlines of figures from Nordic folklore. Tells the story behind the great Cosmic Moose Hunting Scene. The large constellation, Sarva, the Moose, is composed of several Greek
constellations: Cassiopeia, Perseue, Auriga, and is pursued by Gemini, Orion, Ursa Major. Contents: cylinder. Use with Starlab Kit. Training required. Ten-day loan period.
KM 008167 Lewis & Clark Celestial Navigation (Starlab)
A projection cylinder used to project images on the Starlab (KM 08121) dome. Depicts the Celestial Equator, the lines of Right Ascension and Declination, the ecliptic, the zodiacal constellations, the Procession Circle and constellations, and the North Celestial Pole. Shows the position of the sun at the Equinoxes and the Solstices, and the moon phases. Examines how Lewis and Clark used celestial navigation to determine their location. A projection cylinder used to project images on the Starlab (KM 08121) dome. Based on the Continental Drift Theory. Shows active ridges, faults, spreading centers and volcanic activity over the past one million years. Contents: cylinder. Use with Starlab Kit. Training required. Ten-day loan period.

A projection cylinder used to project images on the Starlab (KM 08121) dome. Computer generated starfield simulates the southern night sky. Contents: cylinder. Use with Starlab Kit. Training required. Ten-day loan period.
KM 008162 Urban Starfield (Starlab Cylinder)
A projection cylinder used to project images on the Starlab (KM 08121) dome. Projects the starfield as it might appear in the night sky in areas where light pollution screens out a significant numbers of stars. Contents: cylinder. Use with Starlab Kit.
